Short answer: There is no useful single Germany-wide price for cardiac MRI. A standard ventricular-function and tissue-characterization examination, a contrast-enhanced viability study and pharmacologic stress-perfusion CMR are different protocols. The estimate can also be affected by implanted-device safety review, contrast use, monitoring and specialist interpretation. The cardiology or imaging team should define the protocol before a quotation is compared.

Why the diagnostic estimate should be case-specific

For an international self-pay patient, the useful question is not only the scanner price. The center first needs to confirm the clinical indication and the exact examination protocol. Resting CMR and stress CMR are not the same examination

Cardiac MRI can be used for ventricular function, cardiomyopathy and tissue characterization, while stress-perfusion MRI adds pharmacologic stress and additional monitoring to evaluate inducible ischemia. Ask the center to state whether the quotation is for resting CMR, stress CMR or another dedicated protocol.

Implants and contrast can change preparation

Pacemakers, ICDs and other implanted devices require exact device information and center-specific MRI safety assessment. Kidney function can matter when gadolinium contrast is planned. Do not assume that an implant automatically excludes MRI or that every cardiac MRI requires the same contrast protocol.
