Why the vascular plan must come before the quotation
For an international self-paying patient, a meaningful estimate depends on specialist review of the imaging and a defined procedural strategy. Open surgery, standard endovascular treatment and complex custom-device repair use very different resources, implants and lengths of stay.
- Clinical and imaging review
- Defined procedure or treatment strategy
- Written hospital estimate
- Advance payment when required
- Adjustment if the treatment plan changes
- Final invoice after actual care
The stent graft is only one cost driver
Aortic repair can require multiple graft components, additional branch-vessel stents, intravascular imaging, anesthesia, hybrid-room resources and intensive monitoring. Complex thoraco-abdominal repair is not financially comparable with a routine standard EVAR.
Anatomy can change the treatment and the estimate
If landing zones are unsuitable or branch vessels are involved, the center may recommend fenestrated/branched endovascular repair, hybrid surgery or open repair instead. A preliminary quote prepared before full imaging review can therefore become invalid.
What to ask the quotation to include
Request a written scope rather than a single headline number.
- Stent-graft system and expected components
- Additional branch-vessel stents if planned
- Pre-operative CTA and laboratory testing
- Anesthesia and hybrid operating room
- ICU or monitored-bed assumptions
- Expected inpatient stay
- Early post-operative imaging
- Management of additional days or complications
Budget for surveillance after discharge
EVAR/TEVAR requires follow-up imaging. Ask whether the German center includes early surveillance in the quoted episode and which later CT or ultrasound follow-up can be arranged near home.
