The quotation should therefore follow diagnosis-specific review rather than the broad label 'head and neck cancer'.
Pathology, HPV/p16 and imaging review can form the first cost block
International patients may need pathology confirmation, HPV/p16 review for selected oropharyngeal cancers, specialist radiology review and additional staging before the treatment plan is finalized. Ask whether these services are included in the initial quotation or billed separately.

Reconstruction can materially change the inpatient episode
Large defects can require local, regional or free-tissue reconstruction and involvement of several surgical teams. Reconstruction can add operating-room time, microsurgical monitoring, intensive or intermediate care, wound management and a longer hospital stay.
Radiotherapy and chemoradiation are course-based costs
Head and neck radiotherapy can require planning CT, immobilization, target delineation, dosimetry, quality assurance and multiple treatment fractions. When systemic treatment is combined with radiation, the estimate should make clear whether medicines, infusions, laboratory monitoring and treatment of toxicities are included in the same financial scope.
Dental preparation, nutrition and swallowing support can be clinically important cost drivers
Freiburg documents voice and swallowing support, while Heidelberg includes oral and jaw assessment in head-and-neck pathways. Before major surgery or radiation, selected patients may require dental procedures, feeding-tube planning, dietitian support or swallowing assessment. These services may sit outside a narrow surgery or radiation quotation unless explicitly included.

Final billing is reconciled after treatment, with refunds for unused funds or additional payment when actual resource use is higher.
