A retinal tear, detachment, macular problem or chronic diabetic complication can require very different timing and treatment. The center needs recent retinal examination findings and imaging rather than a generic request for ‘retina surgery’.
Modern eye centers combine imaging and microsurgery
University ophthalmology centers provide dedicated retinal services and vitreoretinal surgery. Treatment planning can use OCT, retinal photography, angiography, ultrasound and other imaging depending on the condition.
Travel restrictions can matter after surgery
Some vitreoretinal procedures use an intraocular gas bubble. In those cases air travel and altitude exposure may be unsafe until the gas has resolved. Ask the surgeon explicitly about positioning, flight restrictions and follow-up before booking return travel.
Records for an international retinal review
Recent images are often more useful than an old written summary alone.

- Fundus photographs when available
- Retinal angiography if performed
- Ultrasound for media opacity when performed
- Previous retinal laser or surgery reports
- Current vision and symptom timeline
- Diabetes and anticoagulant history when relevant
